The Sound of Music

 
  • The Sound of Music was led by veterans of Broadway/National Tours including Jeremy Landon Hays (Les Misérables, The Phantom of the Opera) as Captain von Trapp, Hayley Podschun (Wicked, Hello, Dolly!, Something Rotten!) as Maria Rainer, Joy Lynn Jacobs (Marie Christine, The Music Man, Ragtime) as Mother Abbess, and Lexington’s own Brance Cornelius (How The Grinch Stole Christmas, Cinderella) as Max.

    They were joined by Rising Stars and recent college graduates Taylor Tveten (Webster University) as Elsa Schraeder, Kelly Belarmino (Elon University) as Liesl von Trapp and Jackson Hurt (Northern Kentucky University) as Rolf Gruber.

    Several Central Kentucky youths played the von Trapp Children including Carter Johnston (Friedrich), Hadley Roach (Louisa), Reilly Dalton (Kurt), Isla Dawahare (Brigitta), Stella McQuerry (Marta) and Ileana Worhunsky (Gretl).

    Supporting roles were played by some of Lexington’s favorite local actors including Rachel Black (Sister Berthe), Wesley Byers (Herr Zeller), Catherine Gaffney (Frau Schmidt), Katie Owen (Sister Margaretta), Kelli Jo Summers (Sister Sophia), Paul Thomas (Admiral von Schreiber) and Garrett Van Allen (Franz).

    The ensemble was also comprised of both professional actors from Lexington and college students/recent graduates from around the country including Mya Bryant (Sam Houston State Univ.), Cole Campbell, Chase Fontenot (Montclair State University), Alloria Frayser (Univ. of Cincinnati - CCM), Nick Gundrum (Univ. of Cincinnati - CCM), Mallorie Mendoza (Manhattan School of Music), Courtney Porter (University of Kentucky), Lauranne Rose (Asbury University), Ruthie Sangster (University of Kentucky), Renell Taylor (Elon University), Melissa Rae Wilkeson and Jess Zylstra (Univ. of Cincinnati - CCM).

  • Artistic Director Lyndy Franklin Smith (A Chorus Line, Disney’s The Little Mermaid) directed and choreographed The Sound of Music. The Lex Resident Music Director, Brock Terry, music directed and conducted The Lex Orchestra, comprised of spectacular instrumentalists from across Central Kentucky.

    The Production Team included Tanya Harper (Lighting Design), Marcus Ross (Sound Design), Kevin D. Nedberg (Production Coordinator), Brandon T. Holmes (Production Stage Manager), Elizabeth Payne (Costume Coordination), Melissa Katherine Collins (Stage Manager), Nathaniel Beliveau (Associate Music Director), Michael Rintamaa (Rehearsal Accompanist), Jan Masters Yon (Costume Shop Manager), Jeff Richardson (Assistant Lighting Designer), Elizabeth McGuire (Associate Director/Choreographer - The Sound of Music), and Susan Stephens (ASL Interpretation.)

  • The Lex Resident Music Director, Brock Terry, conducted The Lex Orchestra, comprised of spectacular instrumentalists from across Central Kentucky.

Elam, Amanda Ellerbe, Jana Flygstad, Tim Fogarty, Luke Jackson, Jerram John, Dale Jones, Melanie Kjellsen, Julie Lastinger, Alex Nguyen, David Powell, Paul Reich, Michael Robinson, Zach Robinson, Meg Saunders, Casey Trowel, Jeremiah True, Scott Wright, Wendy Yates, and Janna Young.

  • Participants in the College Intern/Apprentice/Observer Program included Haley Robles (Elon Univ.) as Stage Management Intern, Wesley Byers (Ball State Univ.) as Music Intern, Julia Sutherland (Univ. of Kentucky) as Administrative Intern and Morgan Hutchins (Middle Tennessee State Univ.) as Wardrobe/Wig Intern.

    Wardrobe Apprentices include Christina Haffler and Brodie Blair (Berea College). Sam Richards (Hamilton College) served as Administrative Apprentice, Laura Westray (UNC-Chapel Hill) joined as a Direction Observer and Rosa Maria Hislop (Butler Univ.) joined as a Choreography Observer.

  • HIGH SCHOOL PERFORMING

    Central Kentucky Students participate in our Youth and High School Apprentice Program - gaining experience both onstage and behind the scenes.

    Performing Apprentices include Patton Barlow-Fiero (SCAPA - Bluegrass), Ian McKinney Nunnelley (Stonewall Elementary) and Rory Harden (SCAPA - Bluegrass) for The Sound of Music.

    HIGH SCHOOL TECHNICAL APPRENTICE

    High School Technical Apprentices included Rachel “Bowie” Bowman (Frederick Douglass), Chloe Gaddis (Winburn), Taylor Hatfield (Bryan Station), Jacob Masterson (Scott County), Luke Palmer (Lexington Catholic), Mia Ainsley Smith (Home School), Delaney Walton (Lafayette), and Kody White (West Jessamine).
